One-line summary: Podcast / speaker claim — david-reich says many frequency trajectories inflect or intensify between about 5,000 and 2,000 years ago (Bronze Age / Iron Age in his wording), later than the first farming transition. Not issuer grain; not a collapse thesis.
The insight
Reich’s cartoon surprise: the “big wrench” one expects is Neolithic farming (~11–8.5 kya into Europe). He says the biological readout in their scan intensifies later — higher density, more living with animals, urban-ish conditions — an “evolutionary mismatch” of hunter-gatherer-descended genomes in a Bronze Age environment.
This is not the wiki’s late-bronze-age-collapse argument (multi-stressor destruction c. 1200–1150 BCE). Same word “Bronze Age,” different claim.

A dated, trait-wise pulse (immune / metabolic / pigmentation examples) is the biology claim. All examples are speaker-narrated site stories, not vault-checked allele plots.
Why it matters to history
If the pulse is real, the historically “loud” transition for bodies in Europe / the Near East may sit in the Bronze–Iron intensification, not only at first farming. Still a podcast chip until the paper is ingested.
Contradictions / tensions
- Do not merge with lba-multi-stressor-collapse-chain. Reich is not arguing palatial collapse, Sea Peoples, or 1177 BCE shorthand.
- Tuberculosis-reversal “maybe endemic 2–3 kya” is labeled speculative in-source.
Open questions
- Does “Bronze Age” here mean the same centuries historians use, or a loose 5–2 kya bin?
- Which reversals (TIC2 / MS / hemochromatosis / FADS / ABO-B) are robust outside this interview?
